# Fork a session

Start a new session from a point in an existing session's history, with its own lineage and evidence.

The Console can fork a session from a point in its timeline. The API surface for forks is not yet part of the public Platform API.

This page is planned and not yet written, because the capability it describes is not yet
generally available. The structure is here so you can see where it fits; the notice comes off
when it ships.

## What this page will cover

- Fork from the Console and from the API.
- What the fork inherits: workspace files, history, and identity.
- How lineage appears in evidence.

## Meanwhile

- [Sessions and runs](/concepts/sessions-and-runs) explains why a later run is not a fork.
- [Tour the Console](/getting-started/console-tour) shows where forking lives.
